The authority in Bahamas, URCA (Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority), published on January 23, 2013, the “Guidelines for the Type Approval of Licence-Exempt Radio Spectrum Devices”. The Type Approval process established is applicable to radio spectrum devices not requiring electronic communications service or networks and is intended to verify that the device complies with standards adopted by URCA.

A brief description of the procedure is as follows:

1) An application for Type Approval can be made by the manufacturer/producer, dealer or importer of a Low Power Device, or a duly authorized agent acting on behalf of the manufacturer. (Local representative is not mandatory)

2) Application package is made against FCC standards (copy of FCC Certificate is required and test reports among other documents)

3) Type Approval application fee. URCA published the fee Schedule for January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013 on December 28, 2012. The new Schedule fee adds Type Approval application/administration fees that amounts to 100 USD.

A Type Approval will be issued in the name of the manufacturer (Same as the named Manufacturer on the FCC Equipment Grant Authorization) without exception. Validity of  the certificate is unlimited.

Family approval is not allowed, a separate application is required for each make and model.

Regarding the labelling, equipment must be marked showing the following information:

- The manufacturer’s Name;

- Model, Type Number;

- Serial Number; and

- Approval Number (i.e., the FCC’s Equipment Grant identifier)

Guideline can be consulted in the following link at URCA’s website and the fee scheduled at this one.
