The Office of the Regulator issued last September the Order No. 2011/02 requiring the type approval of all telecommunications equipment.
According to the Order, between 2007 and 2011, the Office of the Regulator has noted that there has been an increase in the types of telecommunications equipment present in Samoa. Therefore, the Regulator deems it necessary to again clarify that type approval is mandatory.
‘Any manufacturer and / or supplier of telecommunications equipment or service provider intending to use a certain type of telecommunications equipment must obtain from the Office of the Regulator type approval for such equipment before that equipment is connected to or used to provide telecommunications services in Samoa.’
The Order is effective from last 23rd of September 2011 and can be read in the following link at the Regulator’s website.
The National Management Spectrum Plan is currently under review by the Office of the Regulator and the revised National Spectrum Plan 2009 would be made public early 2012 after consultation with stakeholders and the public.
